About the Brooklyn Royal Giants

The Brooklyn Royal Giants were one of the most important pre-league Black baseball franchises, operating from 1905 through 1942. The Royal Giants played as an independent professional team for most of their history before joining the Eastern Colored League in 1923 as a charter franchise. The franchise produced Hall of Famers Pete Hill, John Henry "Pop" Lloyd, and Frank Wickware, and was one of the most-traveled barnstorming teams of the early 20th century — playing 150+ games per year across the eastern United States.

After Major League Baseball's December 16, 2020 reclassification of the seven Negro Leagues operating between 1920 and 1948 as major leagues, every NLB-era player from this franchise is now an MLB-recognized major leaguer.
