The Seals were the premier baseball team in San Francisco for over 50 years — winning 14 PCL pennants and featuring many of the minor leagues's biggest stars. All three DiMaggio brothers (Joe, Vince, and Dom) played for the franchise. San Francisco native Lefty O'Doul managed the Seals for 17 seasons in their familiar black-and-white era.

The franchise played its final season in 1957 when the New York Giants announced their relocation to San Francisco, replacing the Seals as the city's marquee baseball team.
