The Memphis Showboats played in both the original United States Football League (USFL) (1984–1985) and the revived USFL (2023). Across two eras, the Showboats name has been one of the most distinctive identities in spring football — a riverboat-themed franchise that gave Memphis one of the most colorful brands in the sport.

The original Memphis Showboats are best remembered as the team that launched the professional career of future Pro Football Hall of Famer Reggie White, who registered 23.5 sacks across his two seasons in Memphis before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. Coached by Pepper Rodgers and led by quarterback Walter Lewis, the Showboats went 7–11 in 1984 and rebounded to a 11–7 playoff campaign in 1985, falling to the Oakland Invaders in the quarterfinals. Memphis drew strong crowds at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium and remains one of the most affectionately remembered franchises of the original USFL run.

The revived Memphis Showboats joined the modern USFL in 2023, replacing the relocated Tampa Bay Bandits and giving the league its first true home-market home games at the rebranded Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. Coached by Todd Haley, the modern Showboats went 4–6 in their lone USFL season before the league merged with the XFL to form the UFL in 2024. The Showboats name continued through the UFL's 2024 and 2025 seasons before the franchise folded — closing a memorable two-era chapter for spring football in Memphis.
