About the Albuquerque Six Guns

The Albuquerque Six Guns are one of pro hockey's most obscure footnotes — a single-season Southwest Hockey League franchise (1973–1974) that gave New Mexico its only major-pro hockey team. Playing at Tingley Coliseum in the high desert, the Six Guns competed in the short-lived SWHL alongside fellow oddities like the Phoenix Roadrunners (later WHA), Tucson Mavericks, El Paso Raiders, Long Beach Sharks, and Las Vegas Outlaws. The league lasted only one full season before folding into the Pacific Hockey League, which itself collapsed shortly after. The Six Guns name and Western-themed branding remain a beloved obscure-hockey collector's piece. Royal Retros honors the lone New Mexico pro hockey franchise.
