The Hartford Colonials played a single season of the UFL in 2010 at Rentschler Field, continuing the winless 2009 New York Sentinels under new ownership. Coached by Chris Palmer, the former NFL head coach of the Cleveland Browns, the Colonials gave Connecticut its first pro football franchise of the modern era.

The team finished 3–5 in 2010. Jerry Glanville was hired to coach for 2011, but ownership and financial problems forced the franchise to suspend operations before it played another game. Notable players included Simeon Rice, Lorenzo Booker, Quintin Demps, Josh McCown, Scott Player, and Kevin Jones.
