The Tampa Smokers played three separate incarnations of minor league baseball across 35 years, spending most of their history in the Florida State League and later the Florida International League while playing at the city's storied Plant Field.

The Smokers were one of the first racially integrated teams in Florida, signing Afro-Cuban outfielder Claro Duany in 1952. Future big-leaguers Joe Medwick, Camilo Pascual, Tommy Leach, and Manuel Cueto passed through Tampa before the franchise folded with the Florida International League after 1954.
