2020: Vince McMahon revival. Five weeks played before COVID-19 cancellation. No champion.
2023: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson / RedBird Capital revival. Arlington Renegades champions. Merged into UFL in 2024.
The XFL launched as a single-season WWF-NBC joint venture in 2001 under Vince McMahon — a high-concept league marketed as a more aggressive, more entertainment-driven alternative to the NFL. The original XFL produced one champion (the Los Angeles Xtreme) before folding after its only season. McMahon revived the league in 2020 with eight new franchises but the season was cancelled after five weeks due to COVID-19. The XFL was acquired out of bankruptcy by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and RedBird Capital, who launched the third XFL in 2023. After one full 2023 season, the XFL merged with the rival USFL to form the United Football League (UFL) for the 2024 season — closing the XFL chapter after three distinct eras.
The XFL t-shirt represents the league's three-decade run as a recurring alternative-football experiment in American sports.
