The Berlin Thunder played nine seasons in the WLAF / NFL Europe from 1999 to 2007 at the historic Olympiastadion, becoming one of the most successful franchises of the late NFL Europe era. The Thunder captured three World Bowl titles in a four-year span — defeating the Barcelona Dragons in 2001, the Rhein Fire in 2002, and the Frankfurt Galaxy in 2004 — placing Berlin among the dominant clubs of the league's final stretch.

Head coach Peter Vaas led the Thunder through its championship years, and the franchise consistently drew strong support at the Olympiastadion. Berlin was dissolved along with the rest of NFL Europa when the league shut down after the 2007 season, closing the book on one of the most decorated franchises of the European era.
