San Francisco played all four seasons of the AAFC at Kezar Stadium, the 59,000-seat bowl at the eastern edge of Golden Gate Park. It was the first major professional football played on the West Coast, and the crowds proved the doubters wrong immediately — the club drew better than most of the established eastern teams in its opening year.
Frankie Albert ran the T-formation offense, a left-handed quarterback with a gift for the bootleg and the fake handoff. Around him were Norm Standlee and John Strzykalski in the backfield, Alyn Beals catching touchdowns at a record clip, and Bruno Banducci on the line. Joe Perry arrived in 1948 and was so fast out of the backfield that Albert nicknamed him "The Jet."
The teams were very good and never quite good enough. San Francisco went 12–2 in 1948 — a record that would have won almost any other season — and finished second, because Cleveland went undefeated. The two met for the final AAFC championship in 1949, and Cleveland won that too. Four seasons in the conference, no titles, and one of the best rosters the league ever assembled.

How to order
- Type the number and/or name you'd like on the jersey in the customization fields. You can leave the name field blank if you only want a number.
- Names and numbers are made in ALL CAPS by default. If you want a specific style — such as a lowercase letter or mixed case — please add to the order notes, and/or email custom@royalretros.com.
- To order a fully blank jersey, check the "Leave blank" box. Blank jerseys still require full production time — we don't keep them in stock.
Important review carefully before ordering
Once your order is placed:
- Changes can only be made within 48 hours of purchase. After 48 hours, the order has entered production and we can't modify it.
- Cancellations after 48 hours are subject to a 20% restocking fee.
Construction options
Many jerseys offer choices like application method (replica/printed vs sewn tackle twill), sleeve length, or add-on patches. The available options appear on the customization screen as you go through it.
Custom measurements
We can produce jerseys in custom measurements including women's and youth sizes. We can also modify other details on the jerseys shown on the site. For these requests, email custom@royalretros.com before ordering.
Blank-jersey exchanges
Custom jerseys ordered blank (no name or number) can be exchanged for another size or for store credit. Custom jerseys with a name or number printed/sewn are final sale.

Production timeframe
Custom jerseys are made-to-order and ship in 3-7 weeks depending on construction style. The exact lead time for the style you choose is shown on the Decoration Type screen during customization.
Expedited shipping
Choosing an expedited shipping method does not speed up production, it only affects how we ship the order once it's been made. If you need your jersey by a specific date, contact us before ordering.
