The Salt Lake (City) Trappers were an independent minor-league baseball team that played in the rookie-level Pioneer League from 1985 to 1992. Uniquely, the Trappers were the only club in the eight-team league with no Major League affiliation — a roster of undrafted, unwanted players — which makes what they did in 1987 all the more remarkable. Co-owned by a group that included actor Bill Murray, the Trappers became one of the most beloved underdog stories in baseball history.

In the summer of 1987 the Trappers won 29 consecutive games, setting the record for the longest winning streak in the history of American professional baseball — a record that still stands. They matched the existing mark on July 24 and broke it the next night with a 13–3 home win over Pocatello in front of 9,968 fans, before the streak finally ended at 29 on a controversial fluke play in center field. Memorabilia from the 1987 squad is enshrined at the National Baseball Hall of Fame, and the story has inspired a documentary film, The Streak.
