The Sacramento Gold Miners played two seasons in Canada's major professional football league from 1993 to 1994 at Hornet Stadium, becoming the first American-based franchise to compete in Canadian pro football. Owned by Fred Anderson, the Gold Miners gave Sacramento a continued pro football presence following the city's WLAF Surge run in 1992.

Head coach Kay Stephenson — fresh off coaching the 1992 World Bowl–winning Sacramento Surge — led the Gold Miners across both seasons, with the team going 6–12 in 1993 and 9–9 in 1994. After the 1994 season, the franchise relocated and rebranded as the San Antonio Texans for 1995. The Gold Miners gave the league its inaugural American expansion franchise — a Historic Canadian Football chapter that paved the way for the league's brief, ambitious 1995 expansion across the southern U.S.
