Titles: 4× WNBA champions (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000) — first WNBA dynasty
The Houston Comets played 12 seasons in the WNBA and won the league's first four championships in a row from 1997 to 2000, becoming its original dynasty. The four-peat featured Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoopes, and Tina Thompson under head coach Van Chancellor.
The Comets folded after the 2008 season when ownership suspended operations, ending one of the most successful franchises in women's pro sports. The Comets name is set to return to the WNBA when the Connecticut Sun relocate to Houston for the 2027 season.
