Team: Florida Block Busters
Years Active: Proposed 1992 (never played)
Home: Proposed for Miami, FL

The Florida Block Busters are one of the great “what could have been” names in pro hockey expansion history. When a new Miami franchise was being established in 1992, owner Wayne Huizenga — who also owned the Blockbuster video rental empire — proposed naming the team the Florida Block Busters, with a blue-and-yellow scheme matching the chain's branding, and a full uniform concept was designed.

The league rejected the corporate-branded name, and the franchise became the Florida Panthers instead. The Block Busters concept survives only as one of hockey's most memorable “almost happened” identities.

Vintage-inspired reproduction — not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any team, league, or organization. Used for historical and artistic purposes only.
