Team: Huntington Blizzard
Years Active: 1993–2000
Home: Huntington Civic Arena — Huntington, WV

Huntington got professional hockey in 1993, when the Blizzard arrived as a minor league hockey expansion club at the Huntington Civic Arena, a building that had spent two decades booking concerts and conventions before it got ice. It was never an easy market — a river city of fifty thousand with no hockey tradition, sitting at the northern edge of a circuit built around long bus rides through Virginia, the Carolinas, and Tennessee.

Crowds turned out anyway, and the Blizzard outlasted plenty of minor league clubs in bigger towns. After seven seasons the franchise was sold and moved to Texas following 1999–2000. Huntington has not had a pro hockey team since.
