The Steelheads were owned by Harlem Globetrotters founder Abe Saperstein. Jesse Owens often traveled with the team to race against people and horses as entertainment between innings. The team had plans to also play home games in various cities throughout Washington before the league folded. Afterwards, the players went back to traveling the country as the Harlem Globetrotters baseball team.
