The Las Vegas Americans gave Sin City a brief but memorable run in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), playing the 1984–85 indoor soccer season at the brand-new Thomas & Mack Center — where the club served as the arena's very first professional sports tenant. Relocated from Memphis by a local casino and hotel owner, the Americans performed well on the floor, posting a 30–18 record and a second-place divisional finish. Financial troubles off the court proved fatal, however, and the franchise was terminated by the league in the summer of 1985 after just one season in the desert.
