The Long Island Jawz played two seasons in Roller Hockey International (RHI) from 1996 to 1997, playing at the Nassau Coliseum and bringing professional roller hockey to the New York metro region. The Jawz's shark-themed identity — and the rebellious "Jawz" spelling — made the franchise one of the more memorable mid-1990s RHI Northeast identities. The team folded with the RHI's 1997 suspension.
