In their early days, the Cangrejeros built rosters by signing star players from the Negro Leagues — and quickly became the marquee franchise of international baseball in Puerto Rico. The Cangrejeros doubled down on the strategy through the 1950s and 60s by signing major-league stars during the off-season, building a dynasty that captured multiple league titles and three Caribbean Series championships in that span.
