The Toledo Mercurys were one of the earliest International Hockey League (IHL) franchises in Toledo, playing intermittent seasons at the Toledo Sports Arena from the late 1940s through the early 1960s. The Mercurys helped establish Toledo as one of the IHL's foundational minor-pro hockey markets — a hockey identity that would later be carried forward by the Toledo Hornets, Toledo Blades, and the championship-winning Toledo Goaldiggers of the 1970s and 80s.
The Mercurys' run was part of the wider mid-century minor-pro hockey landscape, with smaller-market franchises rotating across the Midwest in support of the broader development pipeline. The Mercurys folded in the early 1960s, but their place in IHL history is preserved through Toledo's continued hockey legacy.
