The Johnstown Jets are one of the most legendary names in mid-century American minor pro hockey, playing across multiple leagues from the 1950s through the late 1970s at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena. The Jets won the Lockhart Cup as Eastern Hockey League champions in 1962 and remained one of the most distinctive small-market hockey identities of the entire post-war professional era.

The Jets' lasting cultural legacy comes from their portrayal as the inspiration for the legendary 1977 hockey film Slap Shot — the iconic "Charlestown Chiefs" of the movie were modeled after the Jets, with the Hanson Brothers' real-life inspirations (the Carlson brothers) all playing for Johnstown in the mid-1970s. The Jets' identity, their arena, and even some of their actual players appeared in the film, making them perhaps the most famous obscure minor-pro hockey franchise in American sports history.
