The Houston Colt .45's were the original incarnation of Major League Baseball in Houston — a 1962 expansion franchise that played three seasons in the major leagues before rebranding as the Astros in 1965 to coincide with the opening of the Astrodome. Colt Stadium, the team's open-air home, was famously hot, humid, and infested with mosquitoes — a major reason the franchise needed the climate-controlled Astrodome.
Notable Colt .45's included Joe Morgan, Jim Wynn, Rusty Staub, and Bob Aspromonte — many of whom carried over into the Astros era.
