The Huntington Blizzard brought professional minor-league hockey to West Virginia for seven seasons in the 1990s, playing at the Huntington Civic Arena. The Blizzard were one of several Southern and Appalachian professional hockey franchises that helped expand the sport's footprint into non-traditional markets during the mid-1990s minor-pro hockey boom.

The Blizzard built passionate Huntington crowds across their seven-season run and operated as a development affiliate of a major professional hockey league organization in the Minor League Hockey ranks. Financial pressures and the difficulty of sustaining hockey in a smaller Appalachian market forced the franchise to fold after the 1999–2000 season. The distinctive snow-themed identity and the blue-and-silver color scheme have made the Blizzard one of the more memorable obscure 1990s East Coast minor-pro hockey identities.
