The New England Steamrollers played a single season in the AFL in 1988 at the Providence Civic Center. The Steamrollers were part of the league's earliest expansion wave alongside the Drive, Bruisers, Knights, and Cobras, giving New England its first arena football franchise.
The team folded after one campaign, but the Steamrollers were among the small group of charter-adjacent franchises that helped the league transition from its four-team debut into a broader national footprint.
