The Dayton Triangles were one of the original 14 charter franchises of the American Professional Football Association in 1920 — the league that was renamed the National Football League in 1922. The Triangles played at Triangle Park, the iconic Dayton field that hosted what is generally recognized as the first APFA / NFL game ever played: October 3, 1920, when the Triangles defeated the Columbus Panhandles 14–0.

Dayton was a founding member of pro football's modern league but never captured a championship and folded after the 1929 season as the early league consolidated to bigger markets. The franchise's assets were sold and reorganized as the Brooklyn Dodgers football club for 1930. The Triangles remain one of the most historically significant defunct franchises in American pro football.
