The Chicago franchise played all four seasons of the AAFC from 1946 to 1949 at Soldier Field, competing as the Chicago Rockets from 1946 to 1948 and rebranding as the Chicago Hornets for the 1949 finale. The franchise was one of the league's least successful, going through five head coaches across four seasons.
Despite playing in one of America's largest media markets — and sharing Soldier Field with the rival NFL Bears — the Rockets/Hornets never finished above .500 and folded when the AAFC dissolved after 1949. Chicago has not hosted another major pro football team alongside the Bears since.
