Orlando's professional baseball team played in several minor leagues circuits under no less than 14 different nicknames starting in 1919. The last team to call the city home was the Rays/Sun Rays — a Tampa Bay Rays affiliate that played in the Double-A Southern League at Tinker Field (and later Champion Stadium at Walt Disney World).
The team took the Rays name in 1997 to align with the new Tampa Bay franchise. The Sun Rays captured the Southern League championship in 1999 before relocating to Montgomery, Alabama after the 2003 season.
