The Buffaloes were established in 1888 as the Babies and played at several levels under several nicknames before becoming a AAA team in 1959 (and shortening their name to Buffs). Over 73 years they racked up 17 league titles — one of the most decorated runs in minor leagues history.
Their storied chapter closed at the end of the 1961 season when Houston joined the big leagues as the expansion Colt 45's, who took over the city's professional baseball mantle. Notable Buffaloes alumni included Hall of Famer Dizzy Dean, Frank Snyder, Heinie Schuble, and Bill Hallahan.
