The Tallahassee Tiger Sharks brought professional hockey to Florida's state capital in 1994, joining the broader Southern professional hockey ecosystem at the Tallahassee–Leon County Civic Center. The Tiger Sharks were one of several Florida minor-pro franchises launched during the mid-1990s hockey boom that brought the sport to non-traditional Sun Belt markets across the Southeast.

The franchise played seven seasons in Tallahassee before financial pressures forced the team to fold in 2001. The Tiger Sharks' distinctive aquatic-themed identity has made the jersey a beloved piece of obscure 1990s Southern hockey apparel — a memorable chapter of professional hockey in Florida's Panhandle.
