The Minnesota Moose brought professional hockey back to the Twin Cities for two seasons after the North Stars relocated to Dallas in 1993. Joining the International Hockey League as a 1994 expansion franchise, the Moose played at the Saint Paul Civic Center, giving the “State of Hockey” something to watch while it waited for the top level to return.

Crowds were reasonable, but the economics never worked, and after only two seasons the franchise relocated to Winnipeg for 1996–97. The Saint Paul Civic Center's clear boards and the team's short, oddly named run have kept the Moose a favorite among fans of 1990s minor league hockey.
