The Cleveland Rockers played seven seasons in the WNBA from 1997 to 2003 at Gund Arena (now Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse) as one of the league's eight original 1997 franchises. The Rockers reached the WNBA playoffs four times, including a Conference Finals appearance in 2000.
Stars included Suzie McConnell-Serio, Janice Lawrence Braxton, and three-time All-Star Merlakia Jones. The Rockers folded after the 2003 season when ownership group Gund Arena Co. opted not to continue the franchise — making Cleveland one of the first major-market WNBA cities to lose its team.
