The Pittsburgh Pirates ice hockey team — not to be confused with the Major League Baseball Pirates of the same era — played five seasons of major professional hockey in Pittsburgh from 1925 to 1930. The franchise traced its roots to the Pittsburgh Yellow Jackets, a U.S. Amateur Hockey Association champion in 1924 and 1925, before attorney James F. Callahan purchased the team and renamed it after the city's baseball Pirates as a favor exchange with the Pirates' baseball owner Barney Dreyfuss.
The Pirates played at the Duquesne Gardens in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood and were anchored by defenseman and captain Lionel Conacher — voted Canada's male athlete of the half-century in 1950 — who scored the franchise's first-ever goal in their inaugural game against the Boston Bruins. The Pirates set a record at the time by signing Conacher to a three-year deal worth $7,500 per season. The team posted its best record (19–16–1) in its inaugural 1925–26 season, reaching the playoffs. The Wall Street Crash of 1929 and the Great Depression caught up to the Pirates, and after running $400,000 into debt, the franchise relocated across Pennsylvania to Philadelphia for the 1930–31 season — where it would last just one disastrous year as the Philadelphia Quakers. The Pirates' run remains one of the most underappreciated chapters of Legacy Hockey.

How to order
- Type the number and/or name you'd like on the jersey in the customization fields. You can leave the name field blank if you only want a number.
- To order a fully blank jersey, check the "Leave blank" box. Blank jerseys still require full production time — we don't keep them in stock.
Important review carefully before ordering
Once your order is placed:
- Changes can only be made within 48 hours of purchase. After 48 hours, the order has entered production and we can't modify it.
- Cancellations after 48 hours are subject to a 20% restocking fee.
Construction options
Many jerseys offer choices like application method (replica/printed vs sewn tackle twill), sleeve length, or add-on patches. The available options appear on the customization screen as you go through it.
Custom measurements
We can produce jerseys in custom measurements including women's and youth sizes. We can also modify other details on the jerseys shown on the site. For these requests, email custom@royalretros.com before ordering.
Blank-jersey exchanges
Custom jerseys ordered blank (no name or number) can be exchanged for another size or for store credit. Custom jerseys with a name or number printed/sewn are final sale.

Custom jerseys are made-to-order and ship in 3-7 weeks depending on construction style. The exact lead time for the style you choose is shown on the Decoration Type screen during customization.
Expedited shipping
Choosing an expedited shipping method does not speed up production, it only affects how we ship the order once it's been made. If you need your jersey by a specific date, contact us before ordering.
