The Washington Senators name has belonged to two separate major leagues franchises. The original Senators (1901–1960) played at Griffith Stadium and won the city's only World Series title in 1924 behind Hall of Famer Walter Johnson. That franchise relocated to Minnesota after the 1960 season to become the Twins.
An expansion Senators club replaced them from 1961 to 1971 before relocating to Texas to become the Rangers — leaving Washington without big-league baseball until the Nationals arrived from Montreal in 2005.
