The Jacksonville Bulls were one of the original United States Football League (USFL)'s 1984 expansion teams and built one of the loudest fan bases in the league. Coached by Lindy Infante and built around quarterback Robbie Mahfouz then veteran Brian Sipe (1985) and running back Mike Rozier — who joined Jacksonville for 1985 after the Pittsburgh Maulers folded — the Bulls went 6–12 in 1984 and improved to 9–9 in 1985 before missing the playoffs. The Gator Bowl regularly drew 40,000+ fans, helping prove that Jacksonville could support major-league football years before the NFL Jaguars arrived in 1995. Infante later parlayed his USFL success into a head coaching role with the Green Bay Packers.
