Team: New Orleans Breakers (originally Breakers — Boston, New Orleans, Portland)
Years Active: 1983 Boston · 1984 New Orleans · 1985 Portland (original USFL) · 2022–2023 (revived USFL)
Home: Nickerson Field / Sullivan Stadium — Boston-area, MA (1983) · Louisiana Superdome — New Orleans, LA (1984) · Civic Stadium — Portland, OR (1985) · Protective Stadium — Birmingham, AL (2022) · Ford Field — Detroit, MI (2023)

The Breakers have a singular place in United States Football League (USFL) history. Across the original league's three seasons, the franchise played in three different cities — Boston, New Orleans, and Portland — before the New Orleans Breakers name was revived for the modern USFL's 2022–2023 run.

The original Breakers, coached by Dick Coury throughout, were one of the most resilient organizations in the original USFL despite never finding a permanent home. The 1983 Boston Breakers played at Nickerson Field with quarterback Johnnie Walton leading an 11–7 squad. The franchise relocated to New Orleans for 1984 and went 8–10 in the Superdome, then moved again to Portland for 1985 to finish a 6–12 final season. The franchise epitomized the financial precariousness of original USFL ownership — three cities in three years, never quite finding stable footing.

The revived New Orleans Breakers competed in 2022 and 2023 under head coach Larry Fedora, going 6–4 in 2022 and missing the playoffs in 2023 before the USFL merged with the XFL to form the UFL. Though the modern Breakers played their home games in Birmingham and Detroit rather than New Orleans, the brand carried the spirit of one of original spring football's most distinctive franchises.
