The Calgary Boomers were a brief but spirited Canadian entry in North American Soccer League (NASL), taking the field for the 1981 outdoor season after a 1980–81 indoor campaign. Relocated north from Memphis by businessman Nelson Skalbania, the club played outdoor matches at McMahon Stadium and ran its winter indoor dates at the Stampede Corral. The Boomers gave Calgary a taste of top-flight North American soccer during the sport's late-boom years, fielding imported talent against the league's established sides. Heavy financial losses ended the experiment after a single outdoor summer.
