The Michigan Panthers played in both the original USFL (1983–1984) and the revived USFL (2022–2023). The original Panthers were the inaugural USFL champions, defeating the Philadelphia Stars 24–22 in the league's first title game on July 17, 1983. Coached by Jim Stanley and quarterbacked by Bobby Hebert, with All-League receiver Anthony Carter, the Panthers went 12–6 in 1983 and 10–8 in 1984 before merging with the Oakland Invaders for the planned 1985 season.

The revived Panthers returned in 2022 under head coach Jeff Fisher, then Mike Nolan in 2023, playing road games out of Birmingham before bringing spring football to Detroit's Ford Field for the 2023 home schedule. The modern Panthers went a combined 9–11 across two USFL seasons and continued under the same name into the 2024 USFL–XFL merger that formed the UFL.
