The Beach Bums were born when the former Richmond Roosters relocated to Traverse City, becoming the first professional team in the Northern Michigan resort community since 1914. The independent Frontier League club captured a league championship in 2015.

Despite the on-field success and a waterfront ballpark, the franchise was sold and relocated after declining attendance following the 2018 season.
