Named for the western wind and a famous train, the Zephyrs were the rebranded Denver Bears starting in 1984, playing at Mile High Stadium. Joey Meyer hit the longest home run ever officially measured in professional baseball there, at 582 feet, and Denver won the 1991 league championship.

When the Colorado Rockies arrived as an expansion club, the Zephyrs were displaced and moved to New Orleans for 1993, winning two more titles, in 1998 and 2001. The franchise rebranded as the Baby Cakes in 2017 before relocating again, eventually landing in Wichita in 2020.
