The Jersey Knights were the relocated New York Golden Blades, moved to Cherry Hill, New Jersey partway through the 1973–74 WHA season after the New York operation ran out of options at Madison Square Garden. The Knights finished the season at the small, dated Cherry Hill Arena, with its notoriously sloped ice, a sharp comedown from their original major-market debut.

Ownership relocated the franchise again for 1974–75, this time to San Diego, where it continued as the Mariners. The Knights' brief Cherry Hill chapter remains one of the more unusual relocations in major-league hockey history.
