The Cleveland Stokers were one of the pioneer pro soccer clubs of the late 1960s, debuting under an earlier banner in 1967 before playing the 1968 season in the newly formed North American Soccer League. Based at cavernous Cleveland Municipal Stadium, the Stokers captured their division in a tight 1968 race and pulled off a memorable upset of Brazil's Santos before a record home crowd.

Leaning heavily on imported talent in an era when American soccer was still finding its footing, the club went dormant after the 1968 season.
