The Grand Rapids Rockets played six seasons of minor league hockey in the late 1950s and early 1960s, helping establish Grand Rapids as a hockey town — a tradition later carried forward by the Grand Rapids Owls and, eventually, the Grand Rapids Griffins.
The Rockets folded in the early 1960s as their league contracted, but their run laid early groundwork for one of the more stable minor-pro hockey markets of the following decades.
