The Pacific Coast League's Los Angeles Angels were one of the minor leagues' most dominant teams, winning 11 championships in more than 50 years at Wrigley Field — the original ballpark in South Los Angeles, not its Chicago namesake. The 1934 club was so strong that instead of facing another team in the postseason, it played a PCL all-star squad, and beat them too.

A rivalry with the Hollywood Stars, who shared the same ballpark, boiled over into a 1953 brawl broken up by 50 Los Angeles police officers. The Angels ceased to exist when the Dodgers arrived from Brooklyn in 1958. Notable players included Tommy Lasorda, Sam Crawford, Gavvy Cravath, Andy Pafko, and Jigger Statz.
