The New York Yankees football team played all four All-America Football Conference seasons at Yankee Stadium, sharing the building with the MLB club under owner Dan Topping. The Yankees were among the AAFC's strongest franchises, reaching the championship game in both 1946 and 1947 and losing each time to the Cleveland Browns.

Halfback Spec Sanders was the centerpiece, rushing for a then-professional-record 1,432 yards in 1947. When the AAFC dissolved after 1949, the roster and name were folded into the New York Yanks — the most successful run any rival-league football team ever had in New York.
