Known informally as the Darby Daisies despite having no official nickname, the Hilldale Club became one of the great teams in Negro Leagues history. With a roster loaded with future Hall of Famers, the club won three straight championships in the 1920s before folding during the Great Depression in 1932.

Hall of Fame players included Judy Johnson, Oscar Charleston, Biz Mackey, Louis Santop, Martin Dihigo, and Pop Lloyd.
