The Black Sox are best remembered for their 1929 season, when they won the American Negro League championship behind the “million dollar infield” — what the era's media projected the club's starting infielders would have been worth had they been allowed to play in the white major leagues.

The team folded several years later after star players departed and the league determined the franchise could no longer compete at the major-league level. Hall of Famers who played for the Black Sox included Satchel Paige, Mule Suttles, Ben Taylor, and Jud Wilson.
