The Solons began play in 1883 and went by various names, even moving a few times in their history. When Branch Rickey purchased the team in 1935 the team became established as the Solons and won two championships in the coming years. The Solons moved in 1960 but were resurrected in the 1970's. The 1970's version was short lived as they were forced to play in a football stadium with the left field foul pole only 233 feet from home plate.
