After one unmemorable season in Anaheim as the Amigos, the franchise became the Stars following a move to Los Angeles in 1968, where Hall of Famer Bill Sharman became head coach. Poor attendance prompted a relocation to Utah in 1970. A record crowd of over 13,000 fans was on hand when the Stars defeated the Kentucky Colonels to win the 1971 ABA Championship. The Stars were the first professional basketball club to incorporate a pre-game shootaround.
