The Seals began play as the San Francisco Seals in the Western Hockey League (WHL) and eventually moved to Oakland. After two championships in the WHL, the team joined the major league's 1967 expansion class. While in the big leagues, the Seals had one of the worst records in the history of professional sports with a .349 winning percentage.
