The Cincinnati Swords were established in 1971 as the top minor league affiliate of Buffalo's major league hockey team. The team spent three seasons in the Queen City, winning a league championship along the way. However, the arrival of the Cincinnati Stingers in the major league World Hockey Association in 1974, caused Buffalo to fold the Swords.
