 The Stars joined the WFL with high hopes of giving the league credibility in the biggest market. Unfortunately no stadiums were available and even legendary PA announcer Bob Sheppard couldn't make Downing Stadium work for professional football. Midway through its first season the team moved and became the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets returned for the 1975 season, but the league folded midway through the year.
